It is a double feature this weekend at Art & Invention Gallery! Jewelry artist Anita Schmadtke, and potter Morgan Williamson have joined forces to bring you a day filled with beauty, form and function!

MORGAN WILLIAMSON: Nashville’s Morgan Williamson creates hand-crafted quality functional ceramics for the table and the home. Each piece is individually created from organic materials. The process begins with a lump of clay, but finishes with a beautiful, unique piece meant to be put to use and cherished for generations.

ANITA SCHMADTKE: Local jewelry artist Anita Schmadtke uses a variety of everyday items as tools to create her unique jewelry. A stereo remote control, a wine cork, a piece of driftwood, or even vintage letterpress blocks are just a few of the articles she uses to shape her metals and transform them into imaginative earrings, necklaces, and bracelets. She hammers and twists the metal, then oxidizes them to enhance their design.

“Characters & Curiosities” showcases Elizabeth Foster’s newest work of woodland creatures and dreamlike images.

As a painter and a storyteller, she likes to bring child-like imagination to each piece by using elements of folk art, surrealism, and folklore. Themes of hope, perseverance, the importance chasing your dreams, and a sense of humor emerge through each character she creates. Every painting tells a story, and celebrates the endless possibilities of a wide open imagination.

Elizabeth Foster was born into a family of painters, musicians and creative thinkers. Whenever she was bored as a child, someone would always say, “Go make something!” The result of such an upbringing is a painter / songwriter who is never bored.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Victoria Schwab is a lover of fairy tales, and folklore, and books that make her wonder if the world is really as it seems. She writes about doors, and places between, and the cracks where reality slips into something darker, stranger, and invariably more interesting.

Victoria’s first young adult novel, THE NEAR WITCH, a dark original fairy tale, debuted with Disney *Hyperion in August 2011, and is now out in paperback.

Her current young adult book, THE ARCHIVED, is the first book in a supernatural series about a world where the dead are shelved like books, is also with Disney*Hyperion.

Victoria’s first adult novel, VICIOUS, about two brilliant and highly disturbed pre-med students who set out to generate their own superpowers and end up mortal enemies, will be out in hardcover from Tor in September, 2013.

John Cannon Fine Art is a new addition to the Idea Hatchery. John had his studio/gallery at The Factory in Franklin for over six years, but moved to East Nashville in September. John does pet portraits (and people, too), and custom commission work.

John will have his work displayed and will be offering specials on portraits for Christmas.
